Naperville, Ill. – October 22, 2020 – During the past few years, we have seen a revolution in resiliency within the construction industry. Historically plagued by environmental concerns, low productivity growth, and a poor safety record, professionals in the built environment are leading this revolution by shifting to an industrialized approach. Moving toward a “product-led” approach, and away from a “project-centric” mindset, is helping elevate the industry beyond its traditional, analog operations to improve productivity, boost safety, reduce waste, and deliver quality projects within schedule.

This is a topic Amy Marks, head of industrialized construction strategy and evangelism at Autodesk, will discuss at the National Constructech Technology Days Conference via a virtual presentation on November 13, 2020.

The design process is also rapidly evolving to incorporate DfMA-DR (Design for Manufacture, Assembly-Disassembly and Reuse) principles. A number of global pressures are galvanizing this shift and evolving the industrialized construction ecosystem in ways that will help unlock sustainability, environmental, social, and economic improvements across the board. As a keynote presenter at this year’s Technology Days Conference, Amy Marks’ presentation aims to engage attendees to think about:

  • How owners can take more responsibility for driving the adoption of DfMA-DR and prefabrication.
  • How the industry is moving from ‘project-centric’ delivery to a more ‘product-led’ business model.
  • Ultimately, how we’re all responsible for change and need to think bigger—not just designing for reuse but designing with the opportunity to expand or change, and to truly see the positive environmental and sustainable benefits of industrialized construction practices.

“Serial owners are recognizing the value of industrialized construction and demanding prefabrication on their projects,” says Marks. “Prefabrication can enable the construction industry to address the world’s rapidly expanding building and infrastructure needs, while making projects more predictable, safe, and sustainable. It drives efficiency across workflows, mitigates labor shortages, improves safety, and increases productivity. Construction spending is shifting toward the trend, and organizations must begin to think through DfMA principles and adopt prefabrication practices to stay competitive.”

A pioneer in the construction industry, Marks is known as the world’s preeminent prefabrication consultant and often referred to as the ‘Queen Of Prefab.’ In her current role, she leverages her passion and years of consulting experience to enable and empower the global AEC-M industry to implement and adopt processes for industrialized construction—including prefabrication and modular.

Prior to joining Autodesk, Marks served as CEO of XSite Modular, where she championed the use of optimized prefabrication across many building types including high-tech, healthcare, hospitality, data centers, residential, and commercial. As the leader of XSite Modular, she established strong relationships across the world with many owners, architects, and engineers, and supply chain partners—relationships that she continues to nurture as part of her industry strategy role at Autodesk.

Knowing the importance of creating a sustainable and thriving industry, Marks is an advocate for bringing critical attention to the importance of attracting a diverse talent pool and creating an industry of inclusion that fosters new perspectives and skills to push the boundaries of what’s possible in construction. She is a passionate speaker on improving business results through increased diversity in thought.

“If you know Amy, you know she is a straight shooter who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, in an effort to bring about change,” says Peggy Smedley, president and editorial director, Specialty Publishing Media. “She brings a level of honesty, grit, and candor to every discussion she is a part of. I, for one, am looking forward to hearing her thoughts on this year’s topic.”

This year, Technology Days, November 12-13, 2020 is something old and new—but for the first time, we are creating a hybrid event for attendees. Some keynotes and other sessions will provide virtual and live presentations. This will allow more individuals to participate, creating a global opportunity to hear from our first-class speakers (on your own time), research technology solutions, and access additional content on-the-go anytime.

The first day of sessions will focus on the global need for diversity, equality, and encouraging greater STEM in the building and manufacturing space. It will also explore the global trends ranging from prefabrication, new materials and processes, underlying design assumptions, BIM, intelligent infrastructure, urban mobility, and more.

Day two will focus on the advancement of technology that is inspiring an industry and the next generation of workers to leverage technology to achieve sustainability objectives. In many cases this means building a vision for those companies that believe in taking on a moonshot dream for achieving sustainability and climate goals through the use of traceability and tracking technology. To build tomorrow’s future we will continue to leverage the worker of the future, new AR/VR, drones and other tools to reshape our urbanization, and so much more.
