Would it be possible to build a tiny house or a yurt for example, in order to get everything setup on a lot more cheaply at first with plans to build a larger house in the future on the same lot?
Is there any reason that this first smaller home couldn’t be rented out(maybe short term like a bed and breakfast) once a bigger one was built on the lot, assuming there is market for that in the future?
Juab County requires one single-family dwelling on each lot. While you’re building it, they welcome you to set up temporary housing. Most are using RVs, but tiny homes would work.
The zoning ordinance governing our area (“Outlying district”) is easily interpreted to allow you to operate any “light commercial” business on your lot. However, they don’t define that term anywhere, so it’s up to bureaucratic interpretation (ie. you may have to hire a lawyer to get your way).
