What an exciting year we’ve had. Tours continue on the Riverbed Ranch, where we have reclaimed abandoned water wells, repaired fences, planted and harvested test pilot crops. In addition, we have started remodeling our Welcome Center and initiated surveying in preparations for laying out the 2-acre parcels. Plus, acreage has been set aside for our academy campus, along with the other special support projects to be built on the ranch.
We held a successful Super Saturday last weekend with over 40 people in attendance. The purpose of this event was to prepare for the spring construction of homes and coordinate the hands-on workshops that range from drilling wells, building with rammed earth and other methods and materials, erecting greenhouses, the establishing home-based businesses, such as raising rabbits, and more. All in all, it has been a very rewarding year.
With the expansion of the Academy’s hands-on workshops, there are more opportunities than ever to get involved. There is a current need for a volunteer with HR experience, someone who has 4-5 hours a week to help organize and follow up on the skills & interest surveys in preparation for next year's events. All of these events contribute to helping families become more self-reliant. There are four areas where the Academy helps:
• Find and identify like-minded individuals and essential resources and network with them.
• Educate individuals & families, with both knowledge and hands-on experience and skills to become self-reliant. • Help individuals and families in their planning to become self-reliant and organizing those that want to participate with like-minded neighbors in an agricultural cooperative.
• Provide an opportunity for those that want to help in this great work, serving in various capacities: educational, administrative, and logistics.
As we move forward helping hundreds of individuals and families in OSR, we are finding a very rewarding benefit. This benefit comes in the form of new friends, amazing people with knowledge, skills and an understanding of how important this work is. There is much to do in helping prepare every needful thing. Join with us, connect on Facebook, come and see what Operation Self-Reliance is all about.
God speed,
