Main Street Farms, Cortland NY

The Main Street Farms team runs a diversified vegetable and hemp operation with CSA, wholesale, and farmers market customers. Since 2011, owners Bob Cat and Allan have grown the business each year with the help of family, friends, and a knowledgeable farm crew. They collaborate with other local farms and food businesses to support a vibrant local food community in Central New York. This field day will cover a range of topics, including high tunnel summer crop production, harvesting and post harvest handling, and soil health.

Improving the Vitality of Your Soil Through Organic No-Till Practices
Lovin’ Mama Farm, Amsterdam, NY

Take a tour through Lovin’ Mama Farm where owners Corinne and Matthew produce flowers, vegetables, eggs, and microgreens in an intensive no-till system for CSA, wholesale, farmers markets, and events. These community-driven farmers will explain how they build rich topsoil with compost and mulching, and discuss other benefits of no-till methods including weed suppression, improved water infiltration, and carbon sequestration. This field day will include a demonstration on how you can assess signs of health within your own soils.

Growing Resilience with Farm and Garden Seed Stewardship

The farmers and storytellers at Hudson Valley Seed Company invite you to tour Four Fold Farm, where they grow open pollinated seed and preserve crop diversity by selecting unique, rare, and hard-to-find varieties. Learn how a seed farm is different (and similar) to other farms that grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs, and why seed saving is crucial now more than ever. This field day will cover soil health, organic production methods, harvest, and a seed saving demo with Farmer Katie Wong.
