DESCRIPTION:Fresh Air Tours of the Riverbed Ranch\nBring the kids! \nYour family feeling cooped up? \nAcademy of Self-Reliance staff will be giving a tours of the Utah OSR Land Co-op’s 1\,245-acre Riverbed Ranch property\,\nwhere we are building a 250-family self-reliance community and preparing to build off-grid homes this Fall. \n\nFirst tour starts around 11am\, second is about 1:00-ish\, after everyone eats lunch.\nBring something for potluck\, or brown bag it.\nDrinking water\, restroom and limited cell service available.\nPlan for 2 hours each way if coming from Utah County.\nProbably be wise to make sure your spare tire is good\, and you have a jack and lug wrench — just in case!\nRegister on EventBrite.\n\nCOVID-19 Policy: \n\nSocial distancing is the responsibility of every participant. Good idea to bring masks and gloves\, just in case.\nRadios can be used between vehicles during the tour.\nBring a vehicle that won’t bottom-out on rougher terrain (crossovers\, trucks\, SUVs)\,\nOR\, ride with others on the tour\, in which case\, you’ll want to bring masks and gloves.\n\nIMPORTANT:\nIf it’s your first time to the Riverbed Ranch\, we’d recommend you caravan out. People have gotten lost.\nThose who want to carpool or caravan can meet at 8:30 am at the southeast corner of the Saratoga Springs Walmart parking lot\nand take the Northern route around Utah Lake.  Print out a sheet of paper with “OSR” printed very large so you can find each other.\nIf you live in Orem or parts south\, call Jesse before Saturday if you’d like to caravan (or carpool) on the southern route.\nHis land-line is 801-423-6426. You’ll likely need to leave a message. \nDIRECTIONS: \nIf coming from Northern Utah County or points north:\nUse Google Maps and search for “Table Mountain Utah“. Once there\, follow that road for about 5 or 6 more miles\nuntil you reach the Utah OSR Land Co-op’s large green front gate on the left. \nIf coming via Southern Utah County:\nBefore leaving civilization\, use Google maps on your phone to search for “Utah OSR Land Co-op” and follow the directions. \nIf you don’t have Google Maps\, or a smartphone\, note that the roads out that way have metal sticks with printed numbers on them stuck in the ground near forks in the road with little arrows pointing the way — each number represents a specific road. For most of the way\, when you come to a fork\, you should look for and follow #7. For example\, not long after you leave the asphalt road\, you’ll come to a fork in the road. Over on the left side of the road\, just before the fork\, you’ll see one of those sticks. Among other numbers\, it’ll have a 7 with a small arrow pointing left. Go left. If you keep following the sticks\, as you approach Keg Mountain you will eventually turn North off the main road and\, in about 10 or 11 miles\, arrive at the Riverbed Ranch. If you follow Google maps\, it will have you turn right (NW) sooner and shave off 5 or 10 minutes. Once you pass the off-road recreation area and all the slow drivers\, you can get up to 50 or 60 mph\, but slow down on the turns\, unless you enjoy Adrenalin rushes.  Oh\, and watch for sheep\, cattle\, and wild antelope. \nBy the way\, the first time out it feels like it takes  F O R E V E R  to get there. Don’t worry\, it goes by faster each time you go out.  🙂
