Tours of the Riverbed Ranch Farm-steading Community

Bring the kids!

Dream of living on your own self-reliance family farm surrounded by others doing the same?  This is the place!

Academy of Self-Reliance staff will be giving a tours of the Utah OSR Land Co-op’s 1,245-acre Riverbed Ranch property,
where we are building a 250-family self-reliance community and preparing to build off-grid homes this year.

  • Tour starts around 11am.  (Whether you arrive early or late, park on the East side of the green Welcome Center and come inside).
  • Bring a sack lunch — something you can eat on the move.
  • Drinking water refills, restroom and limited cell service available.
  • Plan for 2 hours each way if coming from Utah County.  A little more from Salt Lake County.
  • Probably be wise to make sure your spare tire is good, and you have a jack and lug wrench — just in case!
  • Register on EventBrite.

If it’s your first time to the Riverbed Ranch, we’d recommend you caravan out. People have gotten lost (due to not following the directions below).
Those who want to carpool or caravan can meet at 8:45 am at the southeast corner of the Saratoga Springs Walmart parking lot and take the Northern route around Utah Lake.  Print out a sheet of paper with “OSR” printed very large and set it in your windshield so you can find each other.
If you live in Orem or parts south, call or text Jesse before Saturday if you’d like to caravan (or carpool) on the southern route.
His number is 385-221-9ll6.

If coming from Northern Utah County or points north:
Use Google Maps and search for “Table Mountain Utah“. Once there, follow that road for about 6 more miles
until you reach the Utah OSR Land Co-op’s 12-foot tall green front gate on the left.  It will likely be closed but not locked.

If coming via Southern Utah County:
Before leaving civilization, use Google maps on your phone to search for “Utah OSR Land Co-op” and follow the directions.

If you don’t have Google Maps, or a smartphone, note that the roads out that way have metal sticks with printed numbers on them stuck in the ground near forks in the road with little arrows pointing the way — each number represents a specific road. For most of the way, when you come to a fork, you should look for and follow #7. For example, not long after you leave the asphalt road, you’ll come to a fork in the road. Over on the left side of the road, just before the fork, you’ll see one of those sticks. Among other numbers, it’ll have a 7 with a small arrow pointing left. Go left.

If you keep following the sticks, as you approach the south end of Keg Mountain you will eventually turn North off the main road and, in about 10 or 11 miles, arrive at the Riverbed Ranch. If you follow Google maps, it will have you turn right (NW) sooner and shave off 10 or 15 minutes, but the road is rougher. Once you pass the off-road recreation area and all the slow drivers, you can go faster, but slow down on the turns, unless you enjoy Adrenalin rushes.  Oh, and watch for sheep, cattle, and wild antelope.

By the way, the first time out it feels like it takes  F O R E V E R  to get there. Don’t worry, it goes by faster each time you go out.  🙂

COVID-19 Policy:

  • Social distancing is the responsibility of every participant. Good idea to bring masks, just in case.
  • Bring a vehicle that won’t bottom-out on rougher terrain (crossovers, trucks, SUVs),
OR, ride with others on the tour, in which case, you may want to bring masks.
  • We’re not OCD about it, but you’re welcome to be.
